Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Minnesota August 13-22, 2020

National Geographic named the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness as one of “50 Destinations of a Lifetime!” Don’t miss your chance to explore this magical land. A small group of nine (maximum allowed) will paddle the remote north woods… land of loons, beaver, and bass!

WHEN - AUGUST 13-22, 2020. We’ll meet up in Ely, settle into our motel, have some time to kick around town and prepare our gear for the morning launch. Then for eight days and seven nights our group will wake with the dawn, paddle approx. 8 miles a day, portage from lake to lake through wild and enchanting land, swim, fish, sit by an open fire, enjoy spectacular sunsets, and fall asleep to the haunting cry of the loon!

WHERE - Ely, Minnesota, home to numerous outfitters, is our jumping off spot for the Boundary Waters. You will be responsible for getting to Ely. Transportation suggestions will be offered (Shuttle from Duluth Airport to Ely available.)

WHO - Anyone 18 years and older who is physically fit enough to paddle a canoe approximately six hours a day, and travel portage trails between lakes (carrying a 40-lb gear pack or portaging a 55-lb canoe) 1/2 mile in length.

COST - $1,750 - Package will include two nights lodging in Ely (pre and post trip), shuttle and tip to and from put-in/take-out destination, all backcountry meals (in-town meals not included), all gear including canoes, paddles, cooking utensils, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent, canoe seats. You will be responsible for your personal clothing and other gear. (List included). Travel to Ely NOT included. (Shuttle from Duluth Airport to Ely available for $150 round-trip.)

YOUR GUIDE - Linda Bailey will serve as your wilderness guide. Linda has led two 8-day (on the water) trips to the Boundary Waters, in 2014 and 2017, and has participated in two Boy Scout High Adventure 9-day trips into the heart of Manitoba canoe country. In addition, she enjoyed a 5-day kayak trip, portaging and camping forty miles through the St. Regis Canoe Area in Adirondack State Park, New York, with a friend in 2016. All travel conducted using map and compass, for added skill development and terrain appreciation.
